When Direct Grant Status was abolished in 1976, Holt Hill joined Heathley High School, a comprehensive school for girls. The combined school became known as Marian High School.
The Diocese of Shrewsbury leased the Holt Hill buildings from the FCJ Sisters and the school operated from these and the former Heathley High School buildings.

In 1981 the Noctorum High School buildings on the Woodchurch Estate became available, as this would enable Marian High to operate from a single site, the Diocese bought the buildings from the local authority. Following refurbishment of the buildings, the Juniors from Marian High School moved in after the Easter Holidays in 1982. The Middle and Upper schools remained at Holt Hill until after the examinations were finished in July. This ended the schools association with the FCJ Sisters.
