When Direct Grant Status was abolished in 1976, Holt Hill joined Heathley High School, a comprehensive school for girls. The combined school became known as Marian High School.

The Diocese of Shrewsbury leased the Holt Hill buildings from the FCJ Sisters and the school operated from these and the former Heathley High School buildings.

In 1981 the Noctorum High School buildings on the Woodchurch Estate became available, as this would enable Marian High to operate from a single site, the Diocese bought the buildings from the local authority. Following refurbishment of the buildings, the Juniors from Marian High School moved in after the Easter Holidays in 1982. The Middle and Upper schools remained at Holt Hill until after the examinations were finished in July. This ended the schools association with the FCJ Sisters.

The Holt Hill buildings were cleared by the 16th July 1982, and the Diocese returned them to the FCJ Sisters. The last Mass was celebrated in the Chapel On 27th June 1982 and the buildings were sold. Demolition started on the 8th September 1982.

Some parts from the school still exist:

  • The large Crucifix from the Chapel now hangs above the altar in St Joseph's Church in North Road;
  • Stained glass windows went to St Paul's on the Ford Estate;
  • The Stations of the Cross, presented by the old girls, went to Our Lady's Ellesmere Port;
  • Chapel benches went to St Alban's Wallasey;
  • Large statues of the Sacred Heart and Little Flower (from Red Corridor) went to St Paul's Ashton-under-Lyne;
  • and a section of the reredos from behind the altar is sitting in a Cheshire reclamation yard.

In 2005 a new teaching block was built at Upton Hall School FCJ, this was named the Holt Building to celebrate the work of Holt Hill Convent.
